Steve, know it or not, definitely said the right thing there to gain more respect from his alien visitor, something easing a bit in his stance. Even still, when he put hands on Clark's shoulders and pressed, it would feel no different than if he was standing on the pavement proper, no real give other than the slight yielding of muscle. What did happen was this earned an amused laugh from him, blue eyes brightening in amusement.
